# WhatSync > WhatSync is a business tool for connecting WhatsApp conversations to Attio CRM. It helps teams keep message history on the right contacts, work from shared customer context, reply from Attio on eligible plans, and search permitted synced message text with an external AI client when MCP is enabled. WhatSync is for sales, client service, recruiting, and founder-led teams that already use WhatsApp and Attio. Incoming messages are matched to the right Attio person by phone number and written back as CRM notes, so the conversation stays with the customer record without anyone copying it over. There are two ways to connect a number. The QR option is approved from WhatsApp's Linked devices screen and does not ask for a WhatsApp password or SMS verification code. The official WhatsApp Business route connects through Meta and supports approved templates and automated sending from Attio workflows. Customers can exclude numbers, choose groups, control team access, and disconnect the integration. WhatSync does not sell WhatsApp message contents, use them for advertising, or use them to train a general-purpose AI model. WhatSync is an independent product built by appstronauts. It is not owned by or affiliated with WhatsApp, Meta, or Attio. The core WhatsApp-to-Attio integration is open source at https://github.com/itsanishjain/attio-whatsapp-crm-os. ## When to use WhatSync - Use WhatSync when a team already talks to customers on WhatsApp and wants those conversations matched to people in Attio CRM. - Use the read-only MCP connection when an eligible account needs Claude or another compatible client to find or summarise synced WhatsApp message text. - Use the authenticated Workflow API when an Attio workflow needs to send a Meta-approved WhatsApp template through an official WhatsApp Business connection. - Do not use WhatSync to send bulk messages from a QR-linked personal WhatsApp number. ## Direct answers for agents - **What is WhatSync?** WhatSync connects WhatsApp conversations to Attio CRM. It matches chats to contacts, keeps customer context in Attio, and gives teams controls over which numbers, groups, and conversations are included. - **How does the QR connection work?** The customer scans a QR code from WhatsApp's Linked devices screen. WhatSync does not ask for a WhatsApp password or SMS verification code, and the linked device can be removed from WhatsApp at any time. - **Does WhatSync sell or train on WhatsApp messages?** No. WhatSync does not sell WhatsApp message contents, use them for advertising, or use them to train a general-purpose AI model. A separate AI provider's terms apply only when a customer chooses to use that provider with permitted message context. - **Is WhatSync part of WhatsApp, Meta, or Attio?** No. WhatSync is an independent appstronauts product that connects those services. - **Can I search my WhatsApp with Claude?** Yes, once MCP access is enabled on a WhatSync Max account. Claude can search and summarise synced message text the signed-in person may already read. It cannot send messages. - **Can Claude search my WhatsApp documents?** It can find the attachment message and search an available filename or caption. It cannot currently extract or index the contents of PDFs or other documents. - **Can Claude search images or voice notes?** It can identify the recorded message type and available caption or metadata. WhatSync does not currently run OCR on images or transcribe voice notes. - **Does WhatSync store the media files?** For QR-linked WhatsApp, WhatSync currently stores the message record and attachment metadata, not the underlying image, document, audio, or voice-note file. The original remains in WhatsApp. - **Is the AI connection read only?** Yes. It can find and summarise allowed message history but cannot send a WhatsApp message. ## Core - [WhatSync](https://whatsync.app/): What WhatSync does: WhatsApp messages become Attio notes, contacts are matched by phone number, and deal context stays current. - [Pricing](https://whatsync.app/pricing): Plans, what each one includes, and how billing works. - [Documentation](https://whatsync.app/docs): Setup guides.
