Reply to WhatsApp Business messages with Make
When a customer messages your WhatsApp Business number, send one reply from a Make scenario. Make works with the official WhatsApp Business API.
1. Prepare WhatsApp and a key
Connect your number through the official WhatsApp Business API in the dashboard and choose which chats WhatSync saves. On the Max plan, open Developers and create a key with read and send permissions.
2. Create the webhook trigger
Create a scenario with Webhooks → Custom webhook. Copy its HTTPS URL and activate the scenario. Add that URL in WhatSync Developers and select message.received. Make cannot check signatures on its own; if you need that, put the verification code from the webhook guide in a small receiver in front of it. Use a test event to check the connection; the filter below skips it.
3. Keep only new customer messages
type == "message.received"
data.message.channel == "business"
data.message.chat_type == "direct"
data.message.from_me == falseMake can deliver the same event twice. Store each event id in a Make data store and stop when it was already handled.
4. Send the reply
Add HTTP → Make a request: POST https://whatsync.app/api/v1/tools/send_message. Set Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY, Content-Type: application/json and an Idempotency-Key mapped from the incoming event id.
{"channel":"business","phoneNumber":"{{data.message.from.phone}}","text":"Thanks, we got your message and will reply soon."}A free-form reply works because the customer just wrote to you, which opens WhatsApp's 24-hour reply window. To message someone first, send an approved template instead: templateName, templateLanguage, templateParameters and recipientOptInConfirmed=true. Check the response before retrying; never retry an uncertain result with a new key. Your reply creates message.sent, so it does not trigger the scenario again.
