What it does in monday.com

Message on a status change

When an item changes, send a WhatsApp message to the phone number on that item, or post in a WhatsApp group.

Approved templates

On the WhatsApp Business API, send Meta-approved templates with values from the item filled in.

Add people to a group

Add the item's phone number to a WhatsApp group. If WhatsApp blocks a direct add, the app sends them the invite link instead.

Group chats on a board

Each WhatsApp group becomes an item. New messages land as updates, with photos and files attached.

Set up WhatsApp for monday.com

A few minutes, done once by one person. Everyone else keeps using WhatsApp as usual.

  1. Install from the monday marketplace

Open the listing, install it to your account and start the trial.

  2. Connect WhatsApp

Link your WhatsApp from Linked devices on your phone, or connect a WhatsApp Business API number through Meta to send approved templates.

  3. Add the WhatsApp action to an automation

In a board's automations, pick the WhatsApp action, choose the phone column or a group and write the message. Business API templates can fill in values from the item.

  4. Sync groups to a board, if you want

Choose WhatsApp groups and the app sets up a board where each group is an item and new messages arrive as updates.

What it does not do

Better to know now than after you set it up. Need something else? Tell us.

  • Old chats are not imported. Group sync starts with new messages.
  • Business API messages outside a 24 hour reply window must use a template Meta approved.
  • Messaging people who did not ask to hear from you breaks WhatsApp's rules and can get a number restricted.
