How do you connect WhatsApp to Claude Cowork?

Claude Cowork uses the same connectors as Claude. Add WhatSync as a custom connector in Claude's settings, sign in, and link your WhatsApp. Cowork can then read the chats you choose while it works on a task.

Add the connector in Claude
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it WhatSync and paste the server URL. If you already added WhatSync to Claude, skip this: Cowork uses the same connectors.

Sign in to WhatSync
Click Connect and sign in with Google or your email.
Link your WhatsApp
Open your WhatSync dashboard and link your personal WhatsApp from Linked devices on your phone, or connect the WhatsApp Business API. If you ask your agent something first, it replies with a sign-in link that works for 15 minutes.
Choose what it can see
On the What's saved page, enable message saving, pick the groups to include and keep any person out. Groups stay off until you tick them. The agent can read permitted messages saved since you enabled saving; linking does not import your entire WhatsApp history.

Go through my WhatsApp chats from this week and make a list of everything I promised someone.
Collect every order from the Orders group since Monday into a spreadsheet on my desktop.
Write a one-page update for the Mehta project using our WhatsApp group and the files in the project folder.
Draft a follow-up for each customer who asked for a quote and has not heard back.

You choose which chats are saved, and you can unlink WhatsApp from your phone at any time. How we handle your data.

Cowork connectors run through your Claude account, so the connection to WhatSync comes from Anthropic's servers, not your computer.
For per-send review, choose Manual mode and set send tools to Needs approval. Auto or Skip modes can run tools without asking each time.
Sends are real WhatsApp messages and run when your AI app allows the tool call. Keep send tools on manual approval and review the recipient and text. Asking the agent to wait is not an enforced approval setting.
Use the Business API for campaigns to customers who opted in. The Business API does not permit unsolicited messages. Linked personal accounts can be restricted for violating WhatsApp's rules.
Search covers saved message text, file names and captions. WhatSync does not index document contents, transcribe voice notes or read text inside images. A download link is available only when WhatSync saved the file.
Group searches and replies require a linked personal WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business API tools work with customer conversations, templates and campaigns.
An unanswered conversation means its latest saved message in the checked period is incoming. It is a follow-up signal, not proof that a question is unanswered or that you owe a reply.

Do I need to add WhatSync again for Cowork?

No. Cowork uses the connectors on your Claude account. Add WhatSync once in Claude and it is available in Cowork.

Can Cowork send WhatsApp messages while it works?

Yes, if sending access is granted. To review each send, use Manual mode with the send tool set to Needs approval. A prompt asking it to wait does not replace these settings.

Can Cowork save WhatsApp files to my computer?

For attachments that WhatSync has saved, it can return a download link valid for 15 minutes. Cowork can use that link; saving to a local folder requires Claude Desktop and access to that folder. Some messages have only file metadata and no downloadable file.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for WhatSync. We run the server for you. You only need the AI app itself. Your WhatsApp keeps working on your phone as normal.

Does it work with the WhatsApp Business API?

Yes. Connect a number through Meta and Claude Cowork can check and create templates, send approved templates, and run campaigns to customers who opted in. Meta reviews every template and charges per message, depending on the country and message type. See WhatsApp Business API.
