WhatsApp for Claude Code

Your bug reports arrive on WhatsApp. Your fixes happen in Claude Code. One command connects the two.

How do you connect WhatsApp to Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http whatsync https://whatsync.app/api/mcp, then run /mcp inside Claude Code and sign in. Link your WhatsApp from the dashboard, and Claude Code can read your chats and send messages you approve.

What Claude Code can do with your WhatsApp

Bug reports from the source

Pull the exact message, screenshot name and steps a user sent on WhatsApp.

Tell people it is fixed

After the fix ships, Claude Code drafts the update to the team group for you to approve.

Build on WhatsApp

Test your own WhatsApp bot or campaign flow with real tools, without writing an API client.

Add WhatSync to Claude Code

You sign in to WhatSync once. No API keys to paste. Check what you need above first.

  1. Add the server

Run this in your terminal. Add --scope user to use WhatSync in every project.

claude mcp add --transport http whatsync https://whatsync.app/api/mcp
  2. Sign in

Start Claude Code, run /mcp, pick whatsync and sign in with Google or your email.

    /mcp
  3. Link your WhatsApp

Open your WhatSync dashboard and link your personal WhatsApp from Linked devices on your phone, or connect the WhatsApp Business API. If you ask your agent something first, it replies with a sign-in link that works for 15 minutes.

  4. Choose what it can see

On the What's saved page, enable message saving, pick the groups to include and keep any person out. Groups stay off until you tick them. The agent can read permitted messages saved since you enabled saving; linking does not import your entire WhatsApp history.

Things to ask Claude Code

Copy one, change the names, and try it.

  • Use WhatSync to find the checkout bug Rahul described on WhatsApp yesterday, then find it in this repo.

  • Read the last 20 messages in the Dev team group and list open questions about the API.

  • When the tests pass, draft a short WhatsApp to the QA group saying the fix is on staging.

  • List our WhatsApp Business templates and check which ones Meta approved.

Good to know

You choose which chats are saved, and you can unlink WhatsApp from your phone at any time. How we handle your data.

  • Claude Code asks before each tool call unless you allow it. Do not auto-allow the send tools.
  • Use --scope user to keep the server out of a shared project's .mcp.json.
  • Sends are real WhatsApp messages and run when your AI app allows the tool call. Keep send tools on manual approval and review the recipient and text. Asking the agent to wait is not an enforced approval setting.
  • Use the Business API for campaigns to customers who opted in. The Business API does not permit unsolicited messages. Linked personal accounts can be restricted for violating WhatsApp's rules.
  • Search covers saved message text, file names and captions. WhatSync does not index document contents, transcribe voice notes or read text inside images. A download link is available only when WhatSync saved the file.
  • Group searches and replies require a linked personal WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business API tools work with customer conversations, templates and campaigns.
  • An unanswered conversation means its latest saved message in the checked period is incoming. It is a follow-up signal, not proof that a question is unanswered or that you owe a reply.

Questions

How do I add a WhatsApp MCP server to Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http whatsync https://whatsync.app/api/mcp, then /mcp to sign in. No local install, no Python, no Go.

Do I need to keep anything running?

No. WhatSync is hosted, so it works whenever Claude Code runs, on any machine where you added it.

Can I use it in headless mode or CI?

The server signs in with OAuth in a browser, so sign in once on a machine with a browser. For scripts and CI, use the developer API.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for WhatSync. We run the server for you. You only need the AI app itself. Your WhatsApp keeps working on your phone as normal.

Does it work with the WhatsApp Business API?

Yes. Connect a number through Meta and Claude Code can check and create templates, send approved templates, and run campaigns to customers who opted in. Meta reviews every template and charges per message, depending on the country and message type. See WhatsApp Business API.

Is WhatSync made by Anthropic?

No. WhatSync is made by Appstronauts. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic, WhatsApp or Meta.

How much does it cost?

See the pricing page for the current plans.
