First, know which kind of API you are buying

There are two ways to send WhatsApp messages from code. The official WhatsApp Business Platform from Meta needs a verified business, uses approved templates to start conversations and charges per message. The other way is a gateway that links to a normal WhatsApp account by QR code, the same way WhatsApp Web does, and exposes it as an HTTP API.

Every product in this comparison is the second kind. That is why they can offer flat monthly prices, unlimited messages, and group and channel features the official platform does not offer to most businesses. It is also why they carry a risk the official platform does not: WhatsApp can restrict or ban a number that it sees as automated. Use a dedicated number, keep volume human, and do not build a business on a number you cannot afford to lose.

Pricing

WasenderAPI's own blog lists $6 a month for one number, $15 for three, $30 for six and $45 for ten, all with unlimited messages. That makes ten numbers cost less than two on Maytapi.

Maytapi lists $24 per phone per month on annual billing, about $29 monthly, with unlimited messages and API calls and every feature included.

What to weigh besides price

WasenderAPI markets heavily with comparison pages against Maytapi, Whapi.Cloud, GREEN-API and others. Read those as marketing. Before moving production traffic, test reconnection after a phone goes offline, webhook reliability and support response times on a throwaway number.

With either product, a banned number is your loss, not the vendor's. The cheaper the number, the easier it is to replace, but your contacts and chat history live with the WhatsApp account.

Where WhatSync fits

If the reason you want an API is to let an AI agent read and answer WhatsApp, you may not need to build on a raw gateway at all. WhatSync's WhatsApp MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP apps your chats as tools, with each send approved by you, on a linked number or the official Business API.

Questions

Why is WasenderAPI so cheap?
It runs WhatsApp sessions linked by QR code rather than Meta's official platform, so there are no per-message charges to pass on. Its plans bundle several numbers at a low price.
Is Maytapi worth four times the price?
It can be if you value a longer track record and a simple plan with everything included. Test both on your own workload before deciding.
