The 6 best WhatsApp MCP servers in 2026, compared
Six WhatsApp MCP servers. Four are built for developers. Two are not. Here is how to pick.
By Anish Jain. WhatSync publishes this article and is one of the options covered.
The quick answer
Not a developer? Pick WhatSync. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or any AI agent, link your WhatsApp, and ask about your chats. Nothing to install.
Already use Blueticks in Chrome? Its MCP works too. Chrome must stay open unless you pay $50 a month.
A developer? Pick by what you are building:
- Free, and you run it yourself: lharries/whatsapp-mcp, or whatsapp-mcp-ts for Node.js.
- Setting up the Business API: Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP. Your coding agent does the setup.
- Your agent already uses Composio: Composio.
- Hosted and always on, so you build nothing: WhatSync.

What is a WhatsApp MCP server?
It is a plug. One end goes into WhatsApp. The other goes into your AI.
Once it is plugged in, you can ask Claude, ChatGPT or any AI agent "who have I not replied to?" and get a real answer from your real chats. Then ask it to draft the reply.
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the standard that makes the plug fit every AI app. Our WhatsApp MCP page explains it in two minutes.
How do you pick the right one?
Ask yourself two questions.
First: is this for your own chats, or for messaging customers?
For your own chats, you need a server that connects personal WhatsApp. For order updates, reminders and campaigns, you need one on the Business API, Meta's official route for businesses.
Three of the six only connect personal WhatsApp. Two only use the Business API. WhatSync does both.
Second: will you write code?
Four of the six are built for developers. If you are not one, that leaves WhatSync and Blueticks.
WhatSync: for everyone, nothing to install
We make this one. Read this part with that in mind.
You add one link to Claude, ChatGPT or any AI agent, sign in, and link your WhatsApp. That is the whole setup. It is hosted, so it keeps working when your laptop is closed, including in the Claude and ChatGPT phone apps.
It has more than 40 tools. Your AI can search every saved message, find chats waiting for your reply, read groups, find files, and send texts, photos, files, voice notes and polls. Your AI app asks you before every send.
Connect your WhatsApp Business app number to the Business API too, and the same AI can create templates and run campaigns to customers who opted in, with a hard cap on how many messages go out.
- Setup guides: Claude and ChatGPT.
- Every tool and the config for each AI app: WhatsApp MCP server.
Blueticks: for people who already use it in Chrome
Blueticks is a Chrome extension for WhatsApp Web, best known for scheduling messages. It also has an MCP server. You add its link to Claude or Cursor, sign in, and your AI can read your chats, search older messages, send, and schedule.
Scheduling is the stand out. None of the others here do it.
The catch: it works through WhatsApp Web in your browser. On the Basic and Standard plans, Chrome has to stay open for messages to send. To keep it running with your laptop closed, you need Pro at $50 a month. The free plan allows 5 AI calls every 6 hours.
If you already pay for Blueticks, adding its MCP is an easy win.
lharries/whatsapp-mcp: the famous free one
Most people find this one first. About 6,400 stars on GitHub. Free and open source.
It runs on your computer in two parts: a Go program that links your number, and a Python server that your desktop AI app starts. Its 12 tools cover reading chats, searching contacts, and sending messages, files and voice notes.
The catch is setup and upkeep. You install Go, Python and uv (plus a C compiler on Windows), keep the Go part running, and link your WhatsApp again about every 20 days. It only works in desktop apps that can start a program on your computer, so not in ChatGPT and not on your phone.
If you are a developer who likes that kind of control, it is a great pick.
- The two side by side: lharries/whatsapp-mcp vs WhatSync.
whatsapp-mcp-ts: the small Node.js one
Same idea as lharries/whatsapp-mcp, written in TypeScript as one Node.js program. Free, with 74 stars on GitHub.
It has six tools: search contacts, list and read chats, read the messages around one message, and send a text. No files, no voice notes.
Pick it if you live in Node.js and want code you can read in an afternoon. You need Node.js 23.10 or newer.
Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP: official, for developers
Meta launched it on September 15, 2026. Its own docs say who it is for: developers building on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Before it works, you need admin access to a business, admin access to a Meta developer app with WhatsApp added, and Meta's Cloud API terms accepted.
Then your coding agent can do the dull setup for you: add and verify a number (you still type the code Meta sends), create templates, point webhooks at your server, create access tokens and send a message.
What it does not do is give you an inbox. The webhooks need a server of yours to land on. The tokens need code of yours to use them. It does not work with personal WhatsApp. It is in beta and still rolling out.
In one line: it makes Meta's API easier for people who were going to write code anyway.

Composio: WhatsApp as one app among hundreds
Composio gives AI agents tools for hundreds of apps through one connection. Its WhatsApp toolkit has 17 tools on the Business API: send text, media, templates and interactive messages, and create and list templates.
You need a number already on the Business API. It does not connect personal WhatsApp, and it has no tools for reading the messages customers send you.
That is the trade with a tool built for hundreds of apps. WhatsApp is one of them. WhatSync only does WhatsApp, which is why it has more than 40 tools, reads your chats, and works with personal WhatsApp too.
Zapier works the same way. Through Zapier MCP, your AI gets four WhatsApp Business actions: send a text, a file or a template, and fetch an attachment.
Pick Composio if your agent already uses it for Gmail, Slack or GitHub. The free Hobby plan is generous.
Questions
- What is the best WhatsApp MCP server?
- If you are not a developer, WhatSync. It is the only one of the six that connects personal WhatsApp with nothing to install and nothing to keep open. If you are a developer and want it free, lharries/whatsapp-mcp. If you are building on the Business API, Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP for the setup.
- Is there an official WhatsApp MCP server?
- Yes. Meta launched the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP on September 15, 2026. It is in beta and built for developers: Business API setup, templates, webhooks and sending. It does not work with personal WhatsApp or read your chats. More in Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, explained.
- Is there a free WhatsApp MCP server?
- Yes. lharries/whatsapp-mcp and whatsapp-mcp-ts are free and open source. You install and run them yourself. Blueticks has a free plan with 5 AI calls every 6 hours, and Composio has a free plan for the Business API. How the free route compares with a hosted one: lharries/whatsapp-mcp vs WhatSync.
- Can a WhatsApp MCP server get my number banned?
- Reading your chats and sending normal messages one at a time is the same as using WhatsApp Web. Sending bulk or unsolicited messages from personal WhatsApp breaks WhatsApp's rules and can get it restricted, whichever server you use. To message many people, use the Business API.
- Does a WhatsApp MCP server work in ChatGPT?
- Only hosted ones do, because ChatGPT cannot start a program on your computer. For personal WhatsApp, the easiest is WhatSync, which is in ChatGPT's app directory. See the ChatGPT guide.
- Can my AI read messages from before I connected?
- It depends. Blueticks reads through WhatsApp Web, including older messages. lharries/whatsapp-mcp and whatsapp-mcp-ts bring in your recent chats from before you link. WhatSync starts saving from the day you link, for the chats you pick.
