First, know which kind of API you are buying
There are two ways to send WhatsApp messages from code. The official WhatsApp Business Platform from Meta needs a verified business, uses approved templates to start conversations and charges per message. The other way is a gateway that links to a normal WhatsApp account by QR code, the same way WhatsApp Web does, and exposes it as an HTTP API.
Every product in this comparison is the second kind. That is why they can offer flat monthly prices, unlimited messages, and group and channel features the official platform does not offer to most businesses. It is also why they carry a risk the official platform does not: WhatsApp can restrict or ban a number that it sees as automated. Use a dedicated number, keep volume human, and do not build a business on a number you cannot afford to lose.
Pricing
Maytapi's pricing page lists $24 per phone per month on annual billing, with unlimited messages and API calls; its own blog gives $29 for monthly billing. From ten numbers you contact sales.
Whapi.Cloud lists $35 per channel per month, or $29 billed yearly, falling to $30 each for 6 to 20 channels and $25 each for 21 to 50. Messages and requests are not metered.
For one number on annual billing the gap is $5 a month. For twenty numbers, Whapi's published tiers make the comparison closer, so ask Maytapi for its volume quote.
Features
Both send and receive text and media, deliver webhooks and manage groups. Whapi.Cloud documents a wider surface: WhatsApp Channels, Communities, polls and frequent changelog updates, plus a large library of integration tutorials. Maytapi's pitch is simpler: one fixed price per phone with every feature included.
The risk both share
Because both drive a regular WhatsApp account, the number can be restricted or banned if WhatsApp sees it as spam or automation. Whapi's own help centre has pages on soft bans and on connecting a new number after a ban. Neither vendor can promise a number stays live. Keep these products for internal tools, groups and low-volume use you can afford to lose.
Where WhatSync fits
If the reason you want an API is to let an AI agent read and answer WhatsApp, you may not need to build on a raw gateway at all. WhatSync's WhatsApp MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP apps your chats as tools, with each send approved by you, on a linked number or the official Business API.
Questions

- No. Both connect a regular WhatsApp account by QR code. Meta's official option is the WhatsApp Business Platform, sold directly or through partners.

- Yes, it is possible. WhatsApp can restrict numbers it sees as automated or spammy. Use a dedicated number and keep volume and content human.
- Which is cheaper?
- Maytapi for one number: $24 a month billed yearly against Whapi's $29. Past five numbers, Whapi publishes lower per-number tiers.
