WhatsApp for Codex

Give Codex your WhatsApp. It can read what users and teammates told you, and send updates you approve.

How do you connect WhatsApp to Codex?

Run codex mcp add whatsync --url https://whatsync.app/api/mcp, then codex mcp login whatsync to sign in. Link your WhatsApp from the dashboard. The CLI, IDE extension and Codex app share the same settings.

What Codex can do with your WhatsApp

From complaint to commit

Codex reads the user's WhatsApp message and works on the fix in the same session.

Release notes for real people

Turn the changes into a short WhatsApp update for clients, ready to approve.

Business API work

Check template status and analytics without opening Meta's dashboards.

Add WhatSync to Codex

You sign in to WhatSync once. No API keys to paste. Check what you need above first.

  1. Add the server and sign in

Run these two commands. The second opens your browser to sign in to WhatSync.

codex mcp add whatsync --url https://whatsync.app/api/mcp
    codex mcp login whatsync
  2. Or edit config.toml

Prefer config files? Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml, then run the login command.

    [mcp_servers.whatsync]
    url = "https://whatsync.app/api/mcp"
  3. Link your WhatsApp

Open your WhatSync dashboard and link your personal WhatsApp from Linked devices on your phone, or connect the WhatsApp Business API. If you ask your agent something first, it replies with a sign-in link that works for 15 minutes.

  4. Choose what it can see

On the What's saved page, enable message saving, pick the groups to include and keep any person out. Groups stay off until you tick them. The agent can read permitted messages saved since you enabled saving; linking does not import your entire WhatsApp history.

Things to ask Codex

Copy one, change the names, and try it.

  • Use WhatSync. Find the error message Aisha sent in the Support group and reproduce it.

  • Summarise the feature requests customers sent me on WhatsApp this month.

  • Draft a two-line WhatsApp to the Client group about today's release. Do not send yet.

  • Which of our WhatsApp Business templates were rejected, and why?

Good to know

You choose which chats are saved, and you can unlink WhatsApp from your phone at any time. How we handle your data.

  • Codex asks before tools with side effects, depending on your approval mode. Keep sends on approval.
  • Sends are real WhatsApp messages and run when your AI app allows the tool call. Keep send tools on manual approval and review the recipient and text. Asking the agent to wait is not an enforced approval setting.
  • Use the Business API for campaigns to customers who opted in. The Business API does not permit unsolicited messages. Linked personal accounts can be restricted for violating WhatsApp's rules.
  • Search covers saved message text, file names and captions. WhatSync does not index document contents, transcribe voice notes or read text inside images. A download link is available only when WhatSync saved the file.
  • Group searches and replies require a linked personal WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business API tools work with customer conversations, templates and campaigns.
  • An unanswered conversation means its latest saved message in the checked period is incoming. It is a follow-up signal, not proof that a question is unanswered or that you owe a reply.

Questions

Something else? Ask us.

Does Codex support remote MCP servers?

Yes. Codex supports streamable HTTP servers with OAuth sign-in through codex mcp login.

Does it work in the Codex app and IDE extension?

Yes. They read the same Codex config, so adding WhatSync once covers all of them.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for WhatSync. We run the server for you. You only need the AI app itself. Your WhatsApp keeps working on your phone as normal.

Does it work with the WhatsApp Business API?

Yes. Connect a number through Meta and Codex can check and create templates, send approved templates, and run campaigns to customers who opted in. Meta reviews every template and charges per message, depending on the country and message type. See WhatsApp Business API.

Is WhatSync made by OpenAI?

No. WhatSync is made by Appstronauts. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, WhatsApp or Meta.

How much does it cost?

See the pricing page for the current plans.
