Connect WhatsApp to ChatGPT
Link your WhatsApp with a QR code, add the WhatSync app to ChatGPT, and ask it about your chats. It takes about 5 minutes and your WhatsApp keeps working as normal.

Step 1: Link your WhatsApp
This uses WhatsApp's Linked devices, the same way WhatsApp Web works. Nothing to install and no password to share.
- Open the WhatSync link page on your computer and sign in with your email. Remember this email, you need it in step 2.
- On your phone, open WhatsApp. On iPhone go to Settings. On Android tap the three dots at the top.
- Tap Linked devices, then Link a device.
- Point your phone at the QR code on your computer screen. Your WhatsApp is now linked.
Step 2: Add WhatSync to ChatGPT
WhatSync is an app in ChatGPT. You add it once and it stays connected.
- Click Add to ChatGPT below. The WhatSync app opens in ChatGPT.
- Click the button to add it, then sign in to WhatSync.
- Use the same email you used in step 1. This is how ChatGPT finds your WhatsApp.
- You are sent back to ChatGPT, connected.
Step 3: Choose what ChatGPT can see
You decide which chats and groups are shared. Everything else stays out of ChatGPT.
- Open your WhatSync settings.
- Keep private chats out, like family or friends, or share only a short list of numbers.
- Turn on the groups you want ChatGPT to see. Groups are off until you pick them.
Step 4: Ask ChatGPT
Start a new chat in ChatGPT and ask a question about your WhatsApp. If ChatGPT does not use WhatSync on its own, mention it by name, for example “Use WhatSync to…”.

Sending messages
ChatGPT can write a reply and send it from your WhatsApp. It asks you to confirm first, so check who it goes to and what it says before you approve.
A linked personal number is for your own chats, not for messaging many people at once. WhatsApp can restrict numbers that send bulk or unwanted messages. To message many customers, use the WhatsApp Business API.
If something goes wrong
- ChatGPT says "Connect WhatsApp first"
- ChatGPT could not find a linked WhatsApp for the email you signed in with. Go back to step 1, sign in with the same email, and scan the QR code. Then add the app in ChatGPT again.
- The QR code expired
- QR codes only last a short time. Reload the page to get a new one and scan it straight away.
- ChatGPT can't find a chat
- Check that the chat or group is shared in step 3. Also, only messages that arrive after you link are synced, so a chat with no new messages may not show up yet.
- It worked before and now it doesn't
- Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked devices, and check that WhatSync is still there. WhatsApp can log out linked devices if your phone has been offline for a long time. If it is gone, link it again.
Questions
- Is this the same as 1-800-ChatGPT on WhatsApp?
- No. 1-800-ChatGPT was OpenAI's own contact that you messaged inside WhatsApp. OpenAI said it would stop working on WhatsApp after January 15, 2026, and its help page now says it is available again only in the European Economic Area. WhatSync works the other way round: it brings your WhatsApp chats into ChatGPT, so you can ask about them where you already use ChatGPT.
- Is WhatSync made by OpenAI or WhatsApp?
- No. WhatSync is made by Appstronauts. It is an app you add to ChatGPT. It is not made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by OpenAI, WhatsApp, or Meta.
- Can ChatGPT read all my WhatsApp chats?
- Only the chats and groups you choose to share. You can change your choice at any time in your WhatSync settings.
- Can ChatGPT send WhatsApp messages for me?
- ChatGPT can write a message and send it after you confirm. Check who it goes to and what it says before you approve. You are responsible for the messages you approve.
- Does it work with the WhatsApp Business app?
- Yes. The QR code works with the normal WhatsApp app and the WhatsApp Business app.
- Will ChatGPT see my old messages?
- Linking does not delete anything on your phone. New messages sync after you link, so ChatGPT works with messages from that point on.
- Can ChatGPT see photos and voice notes?
- It can see that a photo, file, or voice note was sent, along with its file name or caption. It does not look inside images or transcribe voice notes.
- How do I disconnect?
- On your phone, open WhatsApp, go to Linked devices, and log out of WhatSync. You can also remove the WhatSync app from your apps in ChatGPT's settings.
