WhatsApp for Grok

Add WhatSync as a custom connector and Grok can read the chats you choose, catch you up on groups and reply when you approve.

How do you connect WhatsApp to Grok?

Go to grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, choose Custom, and paste the WhatSync URL. Sign in and link your WhatsApp. In Grok Build, xAI's terminal agent, add the same URL as an MCP server.

What Grok can do with your WhatsApp

Fast catch-ups

Ask what you missed and get the short version of every busy chat.

Find the message

Search every saved chat for a name, price or link.

Ship and tell the team

In Grok Build, finish the fix and post a short update to the team group.

Add WhatSync to Grok

You sign in to WhatSync once. No API keys to paste. Check what you need above first.

  1. Add a custom connector

Open grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then Custom, and paste the server URL.

    https://whatsync.app/api/mcp
  2. Sign in to WhatSync

Finish the sign-in with Google or your email. Grok then finds the WhatSync tools.

  3. Link your WhatsApp

Open your WhatSync dashboard and link your personal WhatsApp from Linked devices on your phone, or connect the WhatsApp Business API. If you ask your agent something first, it replies with a sign-in link that works for 15 minutes.

  4. Choose what it can see

On the What's saved page, enable message saving, pick the groups to include and keep any person out. Groups stay off until you tick them. The agent can read permitted messages saved since you enabled saving; linking does not import your entire WhatsApp history.

  5. Using Grok Build?

Inside a Grok Build session, run /mcps, open the MCP tab and paste the URL. Or add it from the command line. Run grok mcp --help if your version uses different flags.

grok mcp add --transport http whatsync https://whatsync.app/api/mcp

Things to ask Grok

Copy one, change the names, and try it.

  • Use WhatSync. What did I miss in my WhatsApp groups today?

  • Find the link Sam sent me about the apartment.

  • Who asked me a question this week that I never answered?

  • The bug Priya reported on WhatsApp: find her message and fix it.

Good to know

You choose which chats are saved, and you can unlink WhatsApp from your phone at any time. How we handle your data.

  • On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin may need to allow the connector first.
  • Grok Build can run many steps in a row. Keep it asking before it sends.
  • Sends are real WhatsApp messages and run when your AI app allows the tool call. Keep send tools on manual approval and review the recipient and text. Asking the agent to wait is not an enforced approval setting.
  • Use the Business API for campaigns to customers who opted in. The Business API does not permit unsolicited messages. Linked personal accounts can be restricted for violating WhatsApp's rules.
  • Search covers saved message text, file names and captions. WhatSync does not index document contents, transcribe voice notes or read text inside images. A download link is available only when WhatSync saved the file.
  • Group searches and replies require a linked personal WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business API tools work with customer conversations, templates and campaigns.
  • An unanswered conversation means its latest saved message in the checked period is incoming. It is a follow-up signal, not proof that a question is unanswered or that you owe a reply.

Questions

Something else? Ask us.

Does Grok support custom MCP servers?

Yes. xAI's docs show adding one at grok.com/connectors with New Connector, then Custom. The server has to be reachable on the internet, and WhatSync is hosted, so it is.

Is Grok Build different from Grok?

Grok Build is xAI's coding agent for your terminal. It has its own MCP settings, so you add WhatSync there separately.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for WhatSync. We run the server for you. You only need the AI app itself. Your WhatsApp keeps working on your phone as normal.

Does it work with the WhatsApp Business API?

Yes. Connect a number through Meta and Grok can check and create templates, send approved templates, and run campaigns to customers who opted in. Meta reviews every template and charges per message, depending on the country and message type. See WhatsApp Business API.

Is WhatSync made by xAI?

No. WhatSync is made by Appstronauts. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by xAI, WhatsApp or Meta.

How much does it cost?

See the pricing page for the current plans.
