WhatsApp chat analyzer

See the numbers behind any WhatsApp chat or group: who sends the most, who starts the conversation, who replies fastest, when you all chat, and the words and emojis you use most. It runs in your browser, so the chat never leaves your device.

Analyze a WhatsApp chat

Drop the .txt or .zip file you get when you export a chat. It works for one-to-one chats and groups. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Export the chat

In WhatsApp, open the chat, then Export chat. Without media is enough and much smaller.

  2. 2

    Drop the file here

The .txt or .zip file from iPhone or Android, from a one-to-one chat or a group.

  3. 3

    Read your stats

Charts for people, times, words and emojis. Download the numbers as a spreadsheet if you like.

How to export a WhatsApp chat for analysis

On iPhone: open the chat, tap the contact or group name at the top, scroll down, tap Export Chat and choose Without Media.

On Android: open the chat, tap the three dots at the top right, then More, Export chat, and choose Without media.

Save the file or send it to your computer, then drop it in above. WhatsApp can cut very long chats short when it exports them, so the analysis covers the messages in the file.

What the analyzer works out

  • Who sends the most, as a share of all messages, plus words, photos, voice notes, emojis and links per person.
  • Who starts the conversation: who writes first after six or more quiet hours.
  • Who replies fastest: the typical time each person takes to answer someone else, leaving out overnight gaps.
  • When you chat: by hour, by day of the week and by month, so quiet spells and busy weeks stand out.
  • Most used words and emojis, leaving out common words like "the" and people's names.
  • Longest streak and longest silence: the most days in a row with messages, and the longest gap between two.

To read the chat itself, search it, or see photos and voice notes, open the same file in our WhatsApp chat viewer.

Private by design

The analysis happens in your browser. Your chat is read on your device and is never uploaded, stored or seen by us. Close the tab and it is gone.

An export is a snapshot. To ask questions about your WhatsApp as it happens, like what a group decided this week, WhatSync connects your WhatsApp to ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps, for the chats you choose.

Questions

Something else? Ask us.

Is this WhatsApp chat analyzer free?

Yes. No sign-up, no limits, and nothing to install.

Is my chat uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser and the numbers are worked out on your device. Nothing is sent to us.

Does it work for group chats?

Yes. Every member gets their own numbers, and the charts show the twelve most active people.

How is reply time worked out?

Each time someone answers after another person wrote, the gap counts as a reply. The analyzer shows the middle value for each person and skips gaps over 12 hours, like overnight.

Which file do I need?

The .txt file, or the .zip file WhatsApp makes when you export a chat, from iPhone or Android, in any language or date format. You can also paste the text.

Why are some messages missing?

WhatsApp limits how many messages go into one export, so very long chats can be cut short. Messages from before you joined a group are not in your export either.

Can I save the results?

Yes. Download the numbers gives a spreadsheet with one row per person, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.

Ask your AI about your WhatsApp
